Sage Payroll numbs the mind
Update: I've noticed a lot of traffic coming in with keywords such as "uninstall sage payroll" so I'll give you folks a bit of information.
I've unfortunately found that trying to completely remove Sage Payroll is a nightmare, the best piece of advice I can give is to avoid it at all costs, however, if you really must do it then either contact Sage if you have a remote assistance deal with them and get them to assist in a complete removal or wipe the machine and start from scratch.
Neither are ideal, unfortunately that's Sage through and through, but it's the best pick of a bad bunch!
Okay,
Let me keep this short and simple:
Sage 50 Payroll NEEDS a quick and simple way to perform a backup of all its data to one file.
A file which I can then import again and use straight away regardless of the insane/bonkers version control used by Sage.
It's crazy, SAPA has a nice easy backup function, so does Line 50.
So why not Payroll? It's been driving me up the bloody wall for weeks.
Here's what I've had to deal with.
User backs up data weekly/monthly.
I come in, format machine, install Windows 7.
Install Sage 50 Payroll 2009/2010 v15
Update to 2010/2011
Attempt to restore Backup
Fails due to version error
Uninstall Sage 50 payroll
App does not cleanly uninstall wtf?
Rather than trawl through the registry I format
Install Windows 7
Install Sage 50 Payroll 2010 v16
Attempt to restore Backup
Fails due to version error
Restore windows xp backup image and start googling for help.
So that's where I am now, 2 failed Windows 7 installs due to one shitty piece of software.
Todays plan? Try again...
Been a while
Things have been pretty hectic recently.
I've decided to bite the bullet and start my own webhosting business supplying hosting to small/medium businesses in the south east of th UK.
I don't expect to become a multi-millionaire going into this cut-throat industry but I have all the hardware available to me so there's basically no start up costs, I've got the know-how to provide the support my customers require and heck, I'm not too bad at coding so I can even build some of the sites myself.
I've been off to see the Prince's Trust about getting a grant to cover my limited initial costs, I've got myself a planned company name (keeping with the Lion theme so you'll just have to wait and see what I've come up with).
I've picked up the domain names I require, I've got the website planned and I'll start development on that as soon as I know for a fact I can trade with the name I want.
I've even got myself a customer lined up, hopefully all of this will come together and finally lift me out of this horrendous rut I've been stuck in for the past couple of months!
Other than getting my life back on track I've not really been up to much, I've got more Airsoft supplies (aka a gun!) so I'm about ready to get stuck back into shooting people! Something I've missed so much over the past two years and I'm really itching to get back to it, not only am I not horrendously unfit I'm also a bit of a recluse, so hopefully this'll be a way for me to get back out and meeting people.
Oh I also got a cute little Baby Windrider Cub from the Blizzard store:

It's so utterly adorable I can't believe how good the quality is!
Ah well, enough rambling on, I'll no doubt post more as the business plan takes off and things start to get rolling. I'll no doubt start pimping myself a lot more on facebook and so forth so if you or anyone you know might be interested in some hosting, I'll have a site and some details up ASAP for them to look at.
Hakuna Matata!
